Wow! Number 39… just one away from 40 and it seems like we just started.
We’re going to call today’s shuffle the walk of the Unexpected! All of the tunes that piped into my brain today (Sailor never listens to the music… hell, Sailor never listens to anybody….) were really pretty unusual tracks from the artists:
Remember (Walking in the Sand),Aerosmith An unexpected and delightfully mellow remake of the 1964 Shangri-Las hit written by George “Shadow” Morton.
Forever Young, Journey This one never charted, but it’s a rather nice listen.
What a Fool Believes,Doobie Brothers OK, breaking the Unexpected mold, this one was the Doobie’s second #1 hit.
On This Side of Goodbye,Righteous Brothers this one broke the top 50 in the U.S. (barely at 47) but it doesn’t really come alive until the ending vamp. Interesting that Mr. Random selected two “brothers” groups in a row, neither of which contained any real brothers.
Winterlong, Neil Young Ho hum…
I’ve Been Around,The Animals I love the Animals…normally. But this thing is the British Invasion’s version of Orlando Generi-Pop. I think they may have been going after the Beach BoysI Get Around. The chorus is cheesy, cheesy, cheesy.
Piece of Mind,Paul Revere and the Raiders The very surprisingly broke the top 100.
Maybe I’m Amazed,Marc Cohn – Yes! What a way to wrap today’s Unexpected randomness. Cohn’sListening Booth: 1970 is a marvelous album.
OK, I just WANTED the set to end with Cohn. On Every Street by Dire Straits brought us home.
OK, this video isn’t in the setlist, but it will help me get I’ve Been Around out of my brain… B^)
Interesting that the Magic Mr. Random chose three of seven from one artist, but than again not when the Beatles library is the largest in Sailor’s collection.
