- Join Together, The Who
- Not a Second Time, Beatles
- Wild Nights, Van Morrison
- Another One Bites the Dust, Queen
- Running to Stand Still, U2
- You Can Have Her, Righteous Brothers
- Oh Pretty Woman, Roy Orbison
- Those Three Days, Lucinda Williams Too bad Mr. Random doesn’t bring her up a little more often. Not today’s video, though…language is a little strong for kiddies.
Pretty, Pretty… Shuffle #47
Danged Hard Times! Shuffle #45
OK, Sailor’s getting tired of the boring names for these things, so he asked me to do a change-up.
- Hard Times, Ray Charles
- It Ain’t Me, Babe, Bob Dylan
- Who’ll Stop The Rain, Creedence Clearwater Revival
- Blood Brothers, Bruce Springsteen
- Kind of a Drag, Buckinghams
- I Want to Break Free, Queen
- Love, John Lennon
Walkin’ Shuffle #43
Ah, before Mr. Random kicks in, we have the last half of Elton John‘s cover of Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.
- Dangerous Type, Cars
- We Live for Love, Pat Benatar
- One of These Nights, Eagles
- Rock Me Baby, Tina Turner Mr. Random must really like this one, he chooses it often.
- Remember[*], Jimi Hendrix Experience
- Jammin’, Bob Marley and the Wailers
- Got To Get You Into My Life, Beatles
[*] a bonus track on the digital remaster of Are You Experienced, and not that memorable. However, another bonus track on the same CD is Red House, one of Jimi’s classic great ones. (Couldn’t find live video, though, so how about some Cars?)
Walkin’ Shuffle #42
- Speak to Me/Breathe, Pink Floyd
- Into the Mystic, Marc Cohn (another brilliant cut from The Listening Booth:1970)
- Love You To, Beatles
- Happy Jack, The Who
- I’ll Be Back, Beatles
- A Fifth of Beethoven, Walter Murphy (Saturday Night Fever soundtrack)
- Digest, Ben Taylor Man, that kid’s got some genes!
- Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, Elton John
Walkin’ Shuffle #40
OK, so Mr. Random must have felt he had to make up for the weird day yesterday, especially since today is Shuffle #40!
- Let it Be, Beatles
- Miss You, Rolling Stones
- Tales of Brave Ulysses, Cream
- A Little Help From My Friends, Joe Cocker
- Come Sail Away, Styx
- The Hurricane, Bob Dylan
Ah, the good old days, when the equity in your house could be collateral for a tank of gas.
Walkin’ Shuffle #39
Wow! Number 39… just one away from 40 and it seems like we just started.
We’re going to call today’s shuffle the walk of the Unexpected! All of the tunes that piped into my brain today (Sailor never listens to the music… hell, Sailor never listens to anybody….) were really pretty unusual tracks from the artists:
- Remember (Walking in the Sand), Aerosmith An unexpected and delightfully mellow remake of the 1964 Shangri-Las hit written by George “Shadow” Morton.
- Forever Young, Journey This one never charted, but it’s a rather nice listen.
- What a Fool Believes, Doobie Brothers OK, breaking the Unexpected mold, this one was the Doobie’s second #1 hit.
- On This Side of Goodbye, Righteous Brothers this one broke the top 50 in the U.S. (barely at 47) but it doesn’t really come alive until the ending vamp. Interesting that Mr. Random selected two “brothers” groups in a row, neither of which contained any real brothers.
- Winterlong, Neil Young Ho hum…
- I’ve Been Around, The Animals I love the Animals…normally. But this thing is the British Invasion’s version of Orlando Generi-Pop. I think they may have been going after the Beach Boys I Get Around. The chorus is cheesy, cheesy, cheesy.
- Piece of Mind, Paul Revere and the Raiders The very surprisingly broke the top 100.
- Maybe I’m Amazed, Marc Cohn – Yes! What a way to wrap today’s Unexpected randomness. Cohn’s Listening Booth: 1970 is a marvelous album.
- OK, I just WANTED the set to end with Cohn. On Every Street by Dire Straits brought us home.
OK, this video isn’t in the setlist, but it will help me get I’ve Been Around out of my brain… B^)
Walkin’ Shuffle #38
- I Think I’d Rather be a Cowboy, John Denver
- Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo, Johnny Winter
- Piece of My Heart, Big Brother and the Holding Company
- She’s Not There, Santana
- Sweet Potato Pie, James Taylor
- Summertime, Summertime, Tom Jameson
- Don’t Say You Love Me, Billy Squier
- Old Man, Neil Young
- Louie Louie, Kingsmen (– Second time in a couple of days for this one, is there a message someplace?)
